Sunny Day in Bangkok: Silpakorn University

<<< Sunny Day in Bangkok: Thammasat University

Not so long after walking along Maharaj Road we arrived Silpakorn University, the university of art. This place was a palace before that's why it's called "Thapra Palace" campus. The university was founded in Bangkok in 1943 by Italian-born art professor Corrado Feroci, who took the Thai name Silpa Bhirasri when he became a Thai citizen. It is the leading Thai university in the fine arts and archaeology.

Small garden inside the university

There are many old buildings in both Thai, western, and mix style of architecture. "Pannarai building" is one of my favorite because it was one of the earliest western influenced buildings in Rama 5 reign. The yellow building has been renovated to be office and art gallery nowadays.

Outside the south gate, in front of us is the Grand Palace. On the right is another pier called "Tha Chang" with again small bazaar. This area are full of good taste restaurant and souvenir shops. I think the food here taste better than Tha Prachan area. It's quite a distance to walk to Suankularb School especially in such a hot sunny day so we decided to take tuk-tuk. Very easy to find and bargain from tourists point, we all 5 persons together paid only 50 baht!

on the way!
